Garage Door Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing and purchasing a new Garage Door is not always the easiest task – there are many different variants out there and you might not be sure which one is right for you. Or you might want to know about our garage door lead times, warranties, brochures or servicing and repairs.

We’ve compiled a handy list of Frequently asked questions about Garage Doors and our services which we hope will help! What are Side Hinged Garage Doors?

Side Hinged Garage Doors are the traditional style of garage doors. As the name suggests this style of garage door has hinges at the side, and usually opens outwards. This is an extremely versatile and practical garage door providing ease of access to bring in shopping or other items to the garage.

What are Automatic Garage Doors?

Automatic Garage doors provide users with ease of access to their garage through the use of a wireless remote. Whilst the garage door can still be opened the traditional way, the added benefit of a remote means you don’t need to get out of the car to open the garage door – particularly useful when it rains!

What is the difference between a Smart Garage Door and Automatic Garage Door?

A Smart Garage Door works like an automatic garage door, except that it can be easily opened and closed through an app for both Android and iPhones. 

What are Up & Over Garage Doors?

Up and Over Garage Doors are one of the most common types found across the UK. As the name suggests the garage opens upwards and will travel along two tracks either side of the door. This type of Garage Door is great for those that may have large and heavy items that need to be transferred to and from garages. 

What are Roller Garage Doors?

Roller Garage Doors are known as some of the most versatile garage doors that can be purchased – This type of garage door provides a great level of security to homes and commercial buildings. In addition to the added level of security that these doors provide they are also aesthetically pleasing providing a smooth steel or aluminium finish. The doors themselves also come in a wide range of colours and are built completely made to measure so there will be no difficulting installing the garage in your home.

Can I have a roller door with restricted headroom?

Yes, you can still have a roller door even if you haven’t got the correct headroom specifications. Something to bear in mind though, is the box would be set lower down, so therefore you would lose some of the headroom on your garage door opening.

What are Sectional Garage Doors?

Sectional Garage Doors are sometimes mistaken for up and over garage doors because of the similarity of opening upwards. Sectional garage doors are extremely innovative and actually compromise of 4-6 panels. Once the garage door is open the different panels of the garage fit horizontally within the roof. This type of garage door opens in a way which makes it perfect for those with larger garages and also larger vehicles needing to be parked in the garage.

How long is the Warranty on our Garage Doors?

With all of our installations we offer a 1-year warranty, which applies to all types of garage doors.

In addition, we also offer the usual manufacturer warranties, which are often between 2-10 years in length. For more information on these please speak with a member of the chase team.

Can I install my own door and will my warranty still be covered?

You would still receive warranty on the actual door and motor, but there would be no warranty for the fitting.

Do Chase Garage Doors offer Garage Door repair services?

Yes we do! We are proud to offer a second to none repair service with our fees starting at £65 +VAT on a standard Garage Door. We will check the locks, handles, sliding mechanisms, panelling and any automation device that could be causing problems for your garage door. Repair charges can vary based on your location. Same day service isn’t always available as this is based on the locality of the fitters so please try and ensure you keep your belongings as safe as possible. We do however endeavour to see to your problem as quickly as we can .
Can I see some of your recent installations?

We are proud of every Garage Door that we replace, repair and install. Because of the pride we take in our work customers come back to us time and time again. How much room do I need?

For Alluguard or Aluroll garage doors for the 77 laths you need 300mm headroom space. For the 55mm laths, you need 205 mm headroom.

What is the best door to go for if insulation is the priority?

A Sectional garage door, without a doubt.

Do you have time scales from ordering to fitting?
  • Roller doors take from day of order to fitting: 2-3 weeks lead time.
  • Sectional doors: 8 weeks lead time.
  • Up and over / side hinged / retractable doors: 4-5 weeks lead time.
  • Tekentrupp insulated side hinged doors: 12 weeks lead time.
How long does a fit take?

Up and overs, side hinged and roller doors around 2-3 hours.

Sectional doors and Tekentrupp doors can take between 6-8 hours.

Do you take away our old door?

Yes, we remove and dispose of your old door for you, free of charge.

My handset stopped working. I’ve changed the batteries and they're still not working. What should I do now?

In this case, they have to be re-programmed. Please call the office where you will be given a fitters telephone number so they can talk you through this process.

Please note that failure for you to be unable to follow the fitter’s instructions would incur a charge of £65 + vat for us to come out and re-programme for you. 

My roller door just keeps going up and down up and down, it wont stop where the limits have been set?

This problem indicates the magnet at the bottom of the roller door has moved, which prevents the transmitter from working. This causes a communication problem between working parts. The number 2 light will also be on the control panel. This would mean a fitter would have to go back out and reset the limits.

Is the survey chargeable to come out to see us?

No, it’s a free site survey we offer to all customers if it’s a supply and fit. If you require supply only then no site survey would be carried out. Prior to the survey, we offer a guide price before booking you in the diary so you are comfortable with the price range.

Do you offer any finance on garage doors?
Of course, we take 25% deposit up front on acceptance of the order. This can be paid over the phone following the acceptance of the order via email.
Once your door is installed, the remainder of payment is due on completion. Payment is taken on site usually, but in the event, the fitters can’t get a signal if you’re paying on a card then you can call the office to pay over the phone or by BACS transfer. We do also accept cash or cheque which should be given to the fitting team.
Failure to pay within 7 days incurs a 2% surcharge to be added to your bill .
Can I have a garage door to match my windows or front door?

Yes, you can. We offer a ral to choose an option on our aluroll garage doors.

What happens once my door is installed?

The fitters will show you how to operate your new door. They will discuss your warranty and show you your user manual. At this point, you may be offered to join our maintenance scheme to give you peace of mind and protect your warranty.

Do you offer surveys on a weekend?

Yes, we can do surveys on Saturday morning and early afternoon to coincide with the closure of our showroom at 2 pm. We don’t do surveys on Sundays
